An ad exchange marketplace is where publishers are able to sell previously unsold inventory to advertising companies that want to promote products and brand etc.

Ad exchanges are particularly beneficial for publishers, as they then have the chance to do a ‘private’ exchange with specific advertisers, meaning that their inventory is sold to relevant people who will advertise relevant brands and products – a food advertising publisher for example can sell their ad space to a recipe site, or a restaurant chain. Not only are unsold spaces filled, but advertisers then also have the access to the inventory to track data and review the advertising tracking.
